Fighting On My Mind
03:08
|
|||
I’m reading comic books to try and train my mind
Yeah I’m reading comic books to try and desensitise
You could be forgiven
For thinking these are the days of retribution
These are the days we’re unforgiven
For all of the times we didn’t listen
These are the days
It’s easy to be right now
As easy to be wrong
Thank god I’ve got my comic books
That help me singalong
And find the righteous ground
Fighting on my mind
I’ve read some poetry
So I can throw some stones
I take a magazine that knows the things I know
I’ve found a pedestal
Where I can truly speak my mind
You could be forgiven
For thinking these are the days of retribution
These are the days we’re unforgiven
For all of the times we didn’t listen
These are the days

Sit tight
I’ll let some light in my eyes
That way
We’ll know if there’s life still inside
Screen burned
Searching for praise in the night
Affirmed
in a sentence or unfiltered slide
Ticks and thumbs a hundred likes
No match for human eyes
Repeat repeat and around and around
I’m going to wait for you
I’ve been struggling with pith and with prose
Trying to not step on anyone’s toes
Bring back the crowd, unshrouded and roused to the boil
Bring back the chance to feel that it’s passion prevails, that it’s love that won’t fail
The daily grind, in and out
Repeat repeat
But we can’t go on and we can’t go back
The daily grind, in and out
Repeat repeat
And we can’t break through
I’m going to wait for you
And the way you move
I’ll wait for you

Charlie Chaplin

I’ve been alone writing a tune and a melody
Waiting at home, waiting for someone to show
Trusting the moon and the stars will let the world know
I’ve been alone drawing a page and a parody
Waiting at home, waiting for God knows the phone to go
Looking behind for the sun when the moon is aglow
Why would you think I could give you sound advice on your dreams?
Silly thing
I wanted to be king, to change the world and sing to the stars
Silly thing
Be cool like Charlie Chaplin
Stand tall like big John Wayne
And I know you’ll go far
Be cool like Greta Garbo
Throw shapes like Jackie Chan
And I know you’ll go far
You’ll stay at home scuffling and chasing a destiny
Worrying soul scribbling your mark on a history
It gives not two tenths of care about you
Do what you can to soften the edges and lines of a
Barbed wire land, reach out and touch what you can
That is the point and the plan, the point and the plan
Why would you think I could give you sound advice on your dreams?
Silly thing
Don’t count wealth in sales, don’t weigh love on scales
And your dreams?
Be a kid my kid and then you’ll live
Work for working’s sake
Love for love’s own gain
Cry for loss not pain
Scream for love not hate
Walk the you walk and I’m sure you’ll move them all
Be cool like Marlon Brando
Stand proud like Muhammad Ali
And I know you’ll go far
Be strong like Uma Thurman
Have soul like John Coltrane
And I know you’ll go far
Be cool like Charlie Chaplin
Stand tall like big John Wayne
And I know you’ll go far
Be cool like Greta Garbo
Throw shapes like Jackie Chan
And I know you’ll go far

We Need Proof
03:54
|
|||
We came
On the fresh wings of love
Carrying San MIguel
Or whatever we could
We’d float
Like a breath only could
Carrying everything
With a full heart of blood
Growing old but not together
The foibles and inclement weather
Gets to you
So we need proof
The mounting bills and crumbling buildings
Finding love no longer thrilling
Gets to you
So we need proof
Touch me
Like you know we must go
Not just parted
But buried in the snow
Sleepless nights and stone cold mornings
Pension plans and constant yawning
Gets to you
So we need proof
Politics and no-stop-thinking
Friends who drank no longer drinking
Gets to you
So we need proof
Dressing up as super heroes
Clapping hard at bedroom windows
That is proof…that is proof
Giggling hard and crying together
Laughing at my failed endeavours
That is proof…that is proof
Remind me every time my darling
Remind me every time my darling
That we have proof
We have proof
We fly. On the fresh wings of love.

Marching Band
03:37
|

Rain, rain on this spring parade
Rain on this carnival day
Wind, blow like a hurricane
Blow through and show your rage
Rain, come down and drench our day
Quench fun that still remains
Wind, a force that can still evade
Trumpets and drums that play
(Silence the trumpets and close the ground
Unspend the tokens and stop the sounds
The bells and the whistles
The shrieking crowd)
They must stay…stay away until…
Wait, for smells that don’t wash away
Onions and drinking games
Rain, tumble down anyway
Like always on carnival day
Rain, rain on this spring parade
Rain on this carnival day
Wait, for smells that don’t wash away
Onions and drinking games
Rain, tumble down anyway
Stay away until…
Next year we’ll march with the marching band
We’ll fight and we’ll bleed and we’ll ring our hands
We’ll meet by the waltzer and we will play
We’ll meet by the waltzer and we will play

Idea #4 (Last Night)
02:44
|
|||
My ego's cushioned by the drink in my hand
I'm faking my way through the bars and arcades as I
Hand you another feed line for the stories we tell of our lives
Last night's still pushing in the back of my eyes
An aching reminder of being too wholly alive
And you, staring over the edge of the cracks where the light fell through
Now the birds are whistling hymns
And the clouds are making masterpieces
Don’t be afraid to let down your hair my love
Don’t be afraid to let down your guard my love
Now the birds are whistling hymns
And the leaves are pirouetting
Now the wind is writing psalms
And the clouds are making masterpieces…right before my eyes.
Last night’s still pushing at the back of my mind
And I can’t remember the reason we write
These tunes, but it fills the room, and so I guess we’ll continue

Hope and Social Leeds
In the tradition of the travelling bands, we guess we’re a bit like a Yorkshire E-Street Band...meets Arcade Fire...meets
The Faces…meets Dexys Midnight Runners…meets Prefab Sprout…at a party...in an argument about who gets to have sex with David Bowie. We're not as good at describing ourselves as others are, so...
