Smell of grass on a summer's day Heading out east to the Yorkshire bays I will miss you Blanket laid on the rolling hills The sun cuts through like a closed fresnel I will miss you A burst of leaves like a spray of paint I see a snowdrop and my heart just melts I would have loved just to stick around But something's changed and I don't know how I'll forgive you People change Specks of white on a smooth green baize The short short nights The long long days I'll miss you Spider's nest of the winter's trees The wind just blows the rain just freezes Drum of rain on the westward wall The April showers the autumn squall I would have loved just to stick around But something's changed and I don't know how... People change We'll stay, stay, where the winds just howls It's people that change it's the place that remains And that's why we can still call this home These hills and these fields They're not fickle or feared And that's why we can still call this home It tells me no lies And with no compromise It just grows as I think I should grow People can change Yes now people can change And that's why we can still call this home Come on now People change

Abide with me my love and let me set the scene I'm watching celluloid of lives we couldn't dream There they are in black and white Let me know the colour of their hair Abide with us a while and let us meet their eyes A frozen eulogy of long forgotten lives Let us paint the shadows in Let us know the colour of their hair Show me one more wall Show me one more stream Show me one more tree but make it evergreen Evergreen I see a lover there, a mother and a child I know a war will come and take away their lives Maybe we've the same to come Maybe there'll be horror in our lives Show me one more wall Show me one more stream Show me one more tree but make it evergreen Evergreen Come take my hand Come take my hand Over these walls, over these walls, over these walls They've seen it all They've seen it all Over these walls, over these walls, over these walls Come take my hand

Pour my blood into a field of hay Drag my body to the East Coast Bays I'm in love with a land that loves the way that I do Lay me down under an autumn tree Wash my body in a babbling stream I'm in love with a land that loves the way that I do Oh my soul, comes alive when I'm heading home Oh my soul We know what we've been told This world is growing old That's OK we're growing older too My world my sweet sweet sage My world of constant change Let me stay and change a while with you I'm in love with a land that loves the way that I do Come on play until our knees are grazed Stop the clocks and let the evening play on I'm in love with a land that loves the way that I do I'm in love with a land that loves the way that I do Oh my soul, comes alive when I'm heading home Oh my soul We know what we've been told This world is growing old That's OK we're growing older too My world my sweet sweet sage My world of constant change Let me stay and change a while with you I'm in love with a land that loves the way that I do

Your soul's down Sitting on the ropes Your chin's proud Taking blow on blow after blow The clock turns Spinning round and round A whirlpool Trying to pull you down, pull you down Take us all back home To where we said we'd grow Lay down the hourglass and lay in the long grass with me Go where the birds fly where time has no meaning be free Be free Go now Following the flow That the herd knows Following the flow as it goes Time's no friend of ours It flows with no regard for us Lay down the hourglass and lay in the long grass with me Go where the birds fly where time has no meaning be free Be free

Oh My Kid 03:37
Oh my kid I wonder where you are Oh my kid I wonder where you are Are you down where we used to play Are you kicking round with a ball Are you there where we used to hide 1, 2, 3 you're all out by the wall And oh my kid I see you every day There in a face I see you every day Are you calling around to play Catching bullyheads in the stream A brand new bike that you want to ride Or are you struggling just like me? Meet me by the pub We're going to have a drink to what we could have been If we had only stuck by our guns Me I'll play in goal And you can be a soldier brave and bold We're going to change the world We're going to change the world Maybe I could sing And you can play the drums we'll do our thing We're going to change the world We're going to change the world Meet me by the pub We're going to have a drink to what we could have been If we had only stuck by our guns

about

The EP that wasn’t an EP.

This collection of songs started life as the soundtrack for a large outdoor light and video show. Over four weekends and visiting four towns the work entitled Yorkshire Electric would have used rare and unseen footage from the Yorkshire Film Archive to weave a story of the rich and varied communities of the Yorkshire Dales and East Coast.

Sadly, due to funding cuts the project was cancelled but we decided to pull together what we had and make 5 songs as a record of the project and the time we spent in the studio. The songs, like the artwork, explore the land and lives of this bit of the country and are drenched with a sense of nostalgia and memory. It’s well trodden ground for us but hopefully there’s a clarity and focus to this which warrants its title.

about

Hope and Social Leeds

In the tradition of the travelling bands, we guess we’re a bit like a Yorkshire E-Street Band...meets Arcade Fire...meets The Faces…meets Dexys Midnight Runners…meets Prefab Sprout…at a party...in an argument about who gets to have sex with David Bowie. We're not as good at describing ourselves as others are, so...
