about

This is a ditched approach to "Heavy Startup, from our album Feel. The "proper" version ended up much more interesting - hopeandsocial.bandcamp.com/track/heavy-startup-2

We felt like the bombastic approach to this was a) a fail. b) too much like another track from the Feel album and c) that maybe starting a song with a sample of a gunshot just isn't as cool a thing to do as it first seemed (Fletch HATED the gunshot).

Looking back, yes we were right. This is bobbins, and we know it.

lyrics

Is this where we started I can't believe it's true
Cos we're broken hearted the cracks are showing through
Just like Elvis Presley were all shook up inside
If to stay and fight or to run away and hide

In the arms of love is where grew

Well the leaves are falling I've got those wedding blues
Oh what could have been well it's not for me of you
Hush now darling well hush now don't you cry
I'm a good good man but I'm not that great a guy

In the arms is where we grew

So burn it up
As our heads whirl and our toes curl
Writhing on the back seat
So burn it up
Til our hands bleed and our lips steal
Riding round the ring road
Burn it up
Till our hearts yearn and our minds learn
It's all we ever needed
Burn it up

So tomorrow morning we'll let the children know
Maybe old St Nick could make all our problems go
Now the snow is falling please now don't you cry
Cos I choose to stay and I choose to make this right

Now here comes the Autumn here come the leaves
Stay with me in winter

So burn it up
As our heads whirl and our toes curl
Writhing on the back seat
So burn it up
Til our hands bleed and our lips steal
Riding round the ring road
Burn It up
Till our hearts yearn and our minds learn
It's all we ever needed
Burn it up

about

Hope and Social Leeds

In the tradition of the travelling bands, we guess we’re a bit like a Yorkshire E-Street Band...meets Arcade Fire...meets The Faces…meets Dexys Midnight Runners…meets Prefab Sprout…at a party...in an argument about who gets to have sex with David Bowie. We're not as good at describing ourselves as others are, so...
